Gandhi Nu Gam | Near Rann Of Kutch

I’ve been influenced by Mahatma Gandhi ever since I was a young child. Thus, it was quite a revelation when I went to Gandhi Nu Gam, a stunning village. I was perplexed by the name. I found that this village had been destroyed by the 2001 earthquake after asking the local guide.

Everything in this community was gradually rebuilt by extensive reconstruction. The crew rebuilt the community with the utmost attention to preserving its sociocultural heritage.

In addition to 3 schools, a grass bank, community structures, production hubs, religious shrines, an electricity network, and a water collection system, the project built 455 traditional bhungas.

Sixty of these dwellings were on a new site situated centrally among the existing settlements in the area; the remaining dwellings were in the existing hamlets spread over a 10 km2 area. Each dwelling was provided with its own individual dual pit toilet system and a bathing cubical.

Gandhi Nu Gam is a living example of sheer grit and determination that can preserve the past, as well as shape the future.
